Serena Williams is really amazing at playing tennis.
She’s inarguably the best woman to ever do so, in fact.
But the all-time athlete is apparently very bad at keeping very important secrets.
So it seems, that is.
The multiple-time Grand Slam champion has been close friends with Meghan Markle since 2014, long before she became Mrs. Prince Harry and, as a result, a global celebrity along the lines of few other people alive.
Serena was at the Royal Wedding last May and then attended Markle’s baby shower just a few weeks ago.
After the palace revealed in October that Markle is expecting her first child with Prince Harry, Williams says the duo have talked regularly.
“We… have known each other for a long time. But we really are relying on each other a lot lately,” Williams told E! News in a recent interview — and it makes sense:
Markle is pregnant and Williams welcomed a daughter named Alexis Olympia Ohanian on September 1, 2017.
“She’ll be the best mom, for sure,” Serena told E! News in this same discussion, prior to dropping what many believe to be the gender bombshell:
“My friend is pregnant. And she was like, ‘My kid’s gonna do this,’ and I just looked at her and was like, ‘No, she’s not. No, you’re not.’”
See that? Catch it? Notice what folks on social media are blowing up over?
Serena said SHE. That’s a pronoun used for female, which may very well mean that Serena knows Markle and Harry are expecting a girl and just slipped up in mentioning it during a national interview
To be clear, this is all we’re going on.
It’s still rather speculative to talk about the sex of Markle’s impending baby and/or the name of this Royal Child-to-be.
But what else are we supposed to bring up here?
Both Markle and Harry remained mum for months now about the baby on board, just offering general vague quotes about how their excited or nervous or anxious or whatever all expecting parents would be at this point.
They’ve left us no choice but to scour the Internet for name and gender clues.
Besides, we’re guessing Markle would prefer that we wonder harmlessly about these sorts of details, rather than quote anonymous sources who say she’s had a bad influence on Harry.
Or rather than give her terrible half-sister attention.
Or rather than cite the abhorrent racism that she faces on a near-daily basis.
It sort of sucks to be the Duchess of Sussex these days, but that all should change when her daughter (or son, we guess) arrives someday soon.
We can’t wait!
